  Ashtamangala

 

Nepal

In Nepal, the Ashtamangala, i.e. the eight auspicious symbols, are often found on gates (fig.) and doors. The four symbols on the left panel here are the Conch (fig.); the Lotus (fig.); the Chinese Knot (fig.); and the Chattra (fig.), whilst the symbols on the right panel are the Royal Banner; the Kalasa; the Pair of Fish (fig.); and the Dhammachakka. Above this door is a carving of a kala face.
