Myanmar

In Myanmar, fake animal dances are used to collect donations for local Buddhist temples and other religious purposes, going from home to home to collect gifts in a way similar to the Chinese lion dance (fig.).

 

Used here, at the Irrawaddy a riverside village at the foot of Tantkyi Hill (fig.) near Bagan, is a horse, yet also other fake animals, such as elephants in the Kyaukse Sain Pwe festival (fig.) and ‒especially in Lower Burma buffaloes (fig.), are used in this Burmese custom.
