The Cu Chi tunnels are part of an immense underground network of connecting tunnels, located in the vicinity of Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon.

During the Vietnam War, the tunnel system assumed enormous strategic importance and was crucial to the Viet Cong war effort. Today, many of the VC tunnels (fig.) are a major tourist attraction (fig.).
