Adult Greater Flamingoes are mostly pinkish-white, though the wing coverts are darker pink to reddish, and the primaries and secondary flight feathers are black.

Their habitat mainly consists of shallow, often brackish, lowland lakes and lagoons, and sometimes mudflats and saltpans.
