  King Rama I Monument

The imposing King Rama I Monument in Buriram, showing Phra Phutta Yotfa Chulalok riding his war elephant. He is alsoi known as Phra Pathom Boromaha Kasatriya-tiraat, a title meaning the First Great King, i.e. of the Chakri dynasty (fig.).

 

It is located on a traffic roundabout and here has a large Thai national tricolour (fig.), called thong trai rong, draped in the front of the pedestal. Is is surrounded by thematic lantern posts topped with a golden goose known as hong thong.
