The National Mosque or Masjid (Masyid) Negara in Kuala Lumpur, is besides a Muslim house of prayer, a symbol of the country’s independence, as it was built in 1957, around the time Malaya gained self-rule from the British government.

 

It is located on a 53,000 square meters plot of land and has a capacity to house 15,000 people. Its landmark minaret is 73 meters high.
