  Phra Mahesuan

Thailand

Phra Mahesuan is a Buddhist amulet from Wat Phra Sri Rattanamahathat in Suphanburi, and dates back to the U-Thong Dynasty, i.e. the beginning of the Ayutthaya Period. It is cast in iron and depicts a Buddha image seated in the half lotus position on the naga, a position known as pahng nahg prok, while performing the maravijaya mudra, i.e. the pose in which the Buddha's right hand touches the earth (fig.).
