  White-lipped Pit Viper (heat-sensing organ)

 

Hemotoxic venom. Very painful bite, though usually not fatal it may lead to necrosis.

As with all pit vipers, the White-lipped Pit Viper has heat-sensing organs, i.e. pits on the side of its head, located between its eye and nostril. In addition it has white lips’, i.e. white, pale yellow or pale green sides of the head.

VENOMOUS! This snake is semi-dangerous. It has a hemotoxic venom and has a very painful bite, and though usually not fatal, in severe envenoming its is potentially lethal. Its bite may further lead to local pain, swelling, bruising, blistering, shock, moderate to severe coagulopathy and haemorrhagins with extensive bleeding, minor necrosis.
