Above the lower jaw and behind the tusk of this elephant's skull, a part of a large, ridged molar is visible.

Its shape is so unique, that the Thai name for an elephant's molar, i.e. krahm chang, is used to describe the ridged casque of certain hornbills, such as the Plain-pouched Hornbill, which in Thai is called nok ngeuak krahm chang pahk riab (fig.).
