  tahnbat lotus pedestal

As a symbol of enlightenment the lotus (fig.) is often depicted as a tahnbat, an upside-down lotus pedestal for the Buddha, both in murals and on statues. This image from the Marble Temple (fig.) in Bangkok is in Indian style, but originally comes from the province of Korat.
