RELIGION & MYTHOLOGY

  sadhu

India

Sadhu is the Sanskrit term for someone who renounces the secular world and strives for a religious life. These men often wear saffron or ochre-coloured clothing, symbolizing renunciation. This sadhu in Varanasi holds up his right hand in the abhaya position, i.e. a mudra which states: ‘have no fear’.
