A basket of Winter Melons, which are also known as white gourds, ash gourds or wax gourds, due to the waxy coating, that is the whitish powder-like substance on its surface. They may be elongated or rounded.

The gourds are often cut in chunks and boiled in soups, but may also be stir fried or prepared in other ways. It has the scientific binomial name Benincasa hispidan and in Thai it is known as fak.
