  abhaya mudra with 1 hand

 

Bronze Buddha image from the Lopburi period found in Petchaburi. It stands with an abhaya mudra, representing 'reassurance' or 'no fear'. The right hand is raised with the palm forward as a sign of protection and to take away fear. See also the Thai variation where both hands (fig.) are raised. These two variations are sometimes displayed together (fig.).
