The Choeung Ek Genocidal Center is a memorial
located
on a plot of land, some 15 kilometers from the center of Phnom Penh.
This land is also known
as the Killing Field, as it is the exact site were
people were executed and buried in shallow graves by the
Khmer Rouge,
usually after having passed through S-21 Security Prison (fig.).

It now has
a
mondop with the visible remains of
some of the victims of this regime, as well as a historical museum.
The center
serves as a memorial for the victims of the cruelty and
genocide that took place at this very spot, as well as
throughout the rest of
Cambodia.
Both the museum and the memorial
also aspire to preserve the evidence of the atrocities
at the hands of this brutal communist regime led by the
infamous Pol Pot.
