A male Crested Wood Partridge or, simply Crested Partridge. The male is metallic bluish-green above, glossy greyish-blue to blackish below, and has brownish wings.

Its head is adorned with a tall chestnut-maroon crest, in addition to a white spot and black bristles on the forehead. The bill of the male is blackish with some red near the base.
