Anathapindika, born as Sudatta, and known in Thai as Anathabinthika Setthi (fig.), was a wealthy merchant, banker, and philanthropist in Savatti during the era of the Gautama Buddha. He generously supported the Buddha and his monastic community throughout his life and became known as the Buddha's greatest patron and lay benefactor.
