  Common Bluebottle

This Common Bluebottle was spotted on the outskirts of Guilin, in southern China. It has mostly black wings with a bluish-green macular band, that runs from the apex of the forewings to the inner margins of the hindwings, on both the upper and underside.

 

In addition, the upperside of the hindwings have a series of blue submarginal spots, as well as some red spotting on the underside, including a red spot near the base. It is similar to the Common Jay (fig.).
