RELIGION & MYTHOLOGY

  Krishna and Radha

India

A giant statue of Krishna, the eighth and most popular avatar of Vishnu, with his shakti Radha, at Mangal Mahadeva near Delhi. They are often depicted together, symbolizing divine love, devotion, and the harmonious union of the masculine and feminine aspects of spirituality, while in Hindu iconography, the consort is typically depicted on the left side of her partner, i.e. closest to his heart.

Whereas Lord Krishna represents universal life energy, his consort is said to embody the human soul. Here, he is depicted playing the bansuri (fig.), a metaphor for the soul, with Krishna's music representing the divine call that guides souls on their spiritual journey.
