  Asokaramaya Buddhist Temple

Sri Lanka

On the inside, the Asokaramaya Buddhist Temple in Colombo (fig.), has many colourful murals and bas-reliefs, depicting figures from Buddhism. Amongst the murals is a depiction of the Buddha seated on the ground, whilst a naga is coiled around him and its hood covering his head. It is one interpretation of a pose called pahng nahg prok.

In general, this scene is depicted as the Buddha seated in meditation n the coiled body of the naga (fig.) rather than encircled by it (fig.).
