NATURE & GASTRONOMY

  Giant Earthworm

Vietnam

This Giant Earthworm (fig.), i.e. a species of pheretimoid worm, spotted in Bach Ma National Park (fig.) in central Vietnam, is seemingly overall slate grey. It surfaced after heavy rainfall, one of the few times it can do so as it must keep its body surface wet in order to respire, and was minding its own business among some dead leaves on the forest floor.

However, once it noticed it had been detected and feeling threatened, it started coiling about frantically, thus revealing its underside, which —most surprisingly— was actually white in colour.
