In Thai the cobra is called ‘barking snake’, a descriptive term referring to its hissing sound when it feels threatened and usually is about to strike. This one is a King Cobra.

VENOMOUS! This snake is deadly, able to kill even water buffaloes and elephants. It has a strong postsynaptic neurotoxic and cardiotoxic venom and its bite likely causes severe envenoming with a high lethality potential. Without the administration of an antivenom envenomation can be fatal for humans in less than an hour. Whereas its bite does not cause significant injury at the bite site, it may cause muscle damage or bleeding, moderate to severe flaccid paralysis, and bradycardia.
