  Farman

Hong Kong

The aircraft the Farman displayed at Hong Kong International Airport. In January 1911, the Belgian pilot Charles Van den Born (fig.) brought aviation to Thailand by carrying out the first powered flight in the Kingdom with this 1910 French bi-plane.

He took Prince Burachat Chaiyakon (fig.) on a ride as a passenger, who thus became the first Siamese in history to board an aircraft. On the afternoon of 18 March 1911, he also made the first powered flight in Hong Kong, hence this commemorative display at HKG.
