  Giant Kilometer Marker Lampang

A giant kilometer marker on national road number one, in Lampang. It lists the distances from (top to bottom): Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Chiang Tung, Chiang Thong (Luang Prabang) and Chiang Rung (Sipsongpannah). The front side shows a Garuda, Thailand's national symbol, and the distance of the marker on this road, i.e. 597 km, as well as the text 'Five Cities Crossroad' and 'Gate to Lan Na'.

 

On the backside the marker lists the distances to other major places, i.e. (top to bottom) Indochina Crossroad, Bangkok, Yangoon, Danang, Narathiwat and Singapore. In Thai it is called lak kilomet yak (หลักกิโลเมตรยักษ์) and its height is just over 15 meters (fig.).
