  Chinese red doors

China

Hong Men are large, heavy, wooden gateway doors, that are painted red and inlaid with golden studs. Originally, the design with ninety-nine golden studs, was reserved for the Emperors in their palaces and tombs, but they later on also started to appear elsewhere, such as in defensive walls and temples, and even replicas are used, e.g. in restaurants.
