  Queen Sunandha Memorial

Thailand

Monument topped by an obelisk, erected at the Bang Pa-in Summer Palace in memory of Queen Sunandha Kumariratana (fig.) and her young daughter, Princess Kannaphon Phetcharat (fig.).

Both, as well as an unborn son, drowned on 31 May 1880 when their boat (fig.) on way to the Summer Palace in Bang Pa-in (fig.) capsized. As fate had it, no one came to their rescue, as the then law forbade commoners to touch any royal, even in order to save their lives.
