  Saen Phu

Thailand

A bronze statue of Saen Phu, a nephew of King Mengrai and the founder of Chiang Saen, a former kingdom and present-day amphur on the south bank of the Mekhong River in Chiang Rai, established in 1328 AD. This bronze replaces an earlier sculpture of Poh Khun Ramkamhaeng (fig.) carved from white stone, which was initially placed here while waiting for the current statue to be cast (fig.).
