PROVINCIAL ESCUTCHEON

Samut Prakan

The escutcheon of Samut Prakan shows Phra Samut Chedi, a chedi of which construction started during the rule of Phra Phutta Leut La and now stands on the banks of the Phraya river (fig.), but earlier stood on a small island in the middle of the river, which made the local population call it Phra Chedi Klang Nahm, ‘the chedi in the middle of the water’.
