  Song Nahm Phrathat Lampang Luang

Once a year, in April, the people of Lampang celebrate the Boon Song Nahm Phrathat festival, in which they pour water over the chedi of Wat Phrathat Lampang Luang (fig.).

 

Water is poured into a bucket that hangs underneath a golden naga, the protector of the earthly waters.

Both are then pulled to halfway the top of the edifice over a cable. By pulling a rope the bucket is then toppled, thus dumping the water on the Phrathat.
