mai khabuan (ไม้ขบวน)

Thai. ‘Procession tree’. A small, bonsai-like tree or shrub. It has a bare, straight to slightly crooked trunk, that meanders towards the top, with similar bare branches that have bushes of foliage only at their outermost tips, that can be spherical and dense, or more sparse and less globular. The bark can be pale greyish or dark brown in colour, with a smooth or rough structure, depending on the species. Mai khabuan is one of the more popular types of dwarf trees. See also POSTAGE STAMPS.
