  Wat Sri Don Moon

Thailand

Wat Sri Don Moon (fig.), a historic Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai, is set within a lush, landscaped garden that lends it a distinctly tropical atmosphere, such as at this green spot with statues of Phra Upakhut (fig.).

Even the phayanaag or naga balustrades flanking the staircase that ascends to this side chapel are enveloped in lush greenery, their sinuous forms cloaked by creeping foliage, while a small cascading waterfall adds movement and a tranquil atmosphere to the setting.

In the centre of the compound stands a pedestal bearing a statue of Brahma (fig.) encircled by four four White Elephants, each carrying a different deity, including Bo Bo Gyi (fig.), Rahu (fig.), Phra Witsanukam (fig.), and Ganesha (fig.).

At the back of the compound stands a beautiful white structure adorned with red and gold, known as Chedi Kao Khanajaan, i.e. the ‘Stupa of the Nine Revered Teachers’.
