A cowherd is any person who tends cattle, either male or female, though often it is a young boy or a youthful girl, as seen in these photos, made in Cambodia.

The cowherd usually herds his or her flock around in search of fresh pastures and water. Though the term literally refers to a herdsman of cows, it is also used for those who herd other kinds of cattle, such as water buffaloes.
