  froghopper

Vietnam

A froghopper on a tree in Cu Chi. This cicada-like (fig.) insect is also commonly known as a spittlebug, because in its nymph stage, it produces a nest or cover of frothed-up plant sap, which resembles spit (fig.). This specific species, with a white dotted orangey-rufous head, a bluish-black body, and dark cobalt green wings, also occurs in Cambodia and Thailand, and has the scientific name Polydictya uniformis.
