  lacquerware production

Myanmar

Due to its high functionality and durability, lacquerware is still commonly produced today, as in this community near Bagan, that made the production of lacquerware its household trade.

After the lacquer has been applied onto the surface of an object made of wood or bamboo, it is decorated by hand. This can be done by carving or painting, or by applying other materials, such as gold leaf or pieces of shattered egg shell.
