  lotus in Buddhist iconography

Myanmar

The lotus is often found in Buddhist iconography, sometimes represented as a circle with flower petals as seen from above, especially on temple walls, fences and gates, as well as behind Buddha images, in Myanmar.

In this form it is reminiscent of the Kiku or Chrysanthemum Seal, i.e. the Imperial Seal of Japan, which also consists of a central disc surrounded by a set of flower petals.
