  pipa

China

A musician playing the pipa, a traditional Chinese four-stringed lute. The musical instrument has a pear-shaped body and a neck with 30 frets. It is held upright and played with both hands. The strings are picked with the right hand, sometimes holding a wooden plectrum, or with several small plectra attached to the fingers.
