Thailand

Wat Khao Cha Ngok is a Buddhist temple built on a mountain overlooking the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy (fig.) in Nakhon Nayok.

The temple is scattered over several sections on the mountain and has a cliff with murals of the Buddha, as well as a waterfall that cascades from a rocky cliff in a lush part of the adjacent forest.

The dense jungle in which this sanctuary is situated also features some old dwellings and other edifices that are overgrown with tree roots and vegetation.

Further towards the summit is a mondop which is accessible by a long naga-staircase and that houses a pair of Buddhapada said to be 'actual' footprints of the Buddha.

Adjacent to the mondop is a large standing Buddha statue in a brown robe and in a standing pose crafted to resemble the mural of the Buddha on the cliff below, which is known as Phra Phutthachai, as Buddha image wearing with a brown robe and of which it is said to be in ‘various poses’. It is named after a similar image painted on the wall of a cave at Wat Phra Phutthachai (fig.) in Saraburi.
