The escutcheon of
Lampang shows the
mondop
of
Wat Phrathat
Lampang Luang
(fig.) and at the top of the stairs a cock, a reference
to the old city name 'Kukkut Nakhon' (the city of cocks). Legend has
it that in ancient times a cock was placed at the city gates, to wake up the
bodisattvas so they could bless it and bring
it unremitting honour. |
