The flower of the etlingera eliator has pink red petals with a white to yellow golden edge, and can grow to a diameter of 25 centimeters. It has a wax like appearance and is supported by about a 1.5 meter high leafless stem. The one meter long lancet shaped leaves grow separately on long bamboo like stalks (fig.).
