  Candakumara

Thailand

This mural at Wat Sri Ihyam (fig.) in Bangkok depicts the scene of the Candakumara Jataka when Indra descends from heaven and intervenes to prevent the sacrifice to the gods taking place, by destroying the multi-tiered umbrellas. Khandahala, the unprincipled chief court Brahmin, is seen in the top right corner, while King Ekaraja is depicted below trying to flee on an elephant. The righteous Prince Candakumara, depicted with a radsami or halo, is seated in the background, overlooking the scene.
