Raja-Matangi (Matangi)

  Raja-Matangi (Matangi)

Thailand

Statue of Matangi (fig.) at Tantra Thewala, i.e. the ‘Tantra Idol Shrine’, which is also known as Wat Phra Siwa Chao (fig.), i.e. the ‘Lord Shiva Temple’, in Bangkok. She is the Tantric form of Sarasvati who in her appearance as Raja-Matangi, is here depicted playing the veena, a sitar-like stringed instrument, and, unlike Sarasvati, in the company of a parrot.
