	three horizontal lines. It is applied

	Saivites, 
	primarily on 
	the forehead and 
	 
			usually accompanied by a red dot, 
	 
	but may also be applied on other 
	parts of the body, such as the chest and –as seen here– on the biceps and 
	lower arms. 
	
	 
			It 
	 
	is generally drawn with ashes, which are often taken from cremation pyres.
