A pair of Sarus Cranes at the edge of a sarsom (mustard) field in northern India, close to the Nepalese border. Here they are honoured as bearers of good fortune (fig.).

 

Like other species of crane birds, Sarus Cranes pair for life and their faithful nature has led them to be venerated as symbols of marital bliss.
