  Thatbyinnyu Phaya

Myanmar

With a height of just over 60 meter, Thatbyinnyu Phaya in Bagan, which is also known as Sabbannu Phaya (fig.), is the tallest Buddhist temple in this ancient kingdom and former capital of Pagan.

It has three receding terraces, each adorned with crenellated parapets and corner stupas, that rise above each storey. At the pinnacle is a curvilinear sikhara-like tower (fig.), surmounted by a slim, tapering spire.
