  Wat Mahathat Wachiramongkhon

Wat Mahathat Wachiramongkhon in Krabi (fig.), is a Mahanikaai temple almost covertly hidden amidst plantations of rubber trees (fig.) and oil palms (fig.) in the amphur Ao Leuk.

 

It features several objects related to Hinduism and its central feature is a 95 meter high pagoda built in the style of the Maha Bodhi Pagoda at in Bodh Gaya in India, the place where the Buddha attained bodh, i.e. Enlightenment.

Seen here on the left is a statue of Tao Ramathep (fig.) seated on a snake (fig.), which is coiled onto a pedestal that is encircled by images of the demon Rahu (fig.).
