  Wat Umong (Tunnel Temple)

Thailand

Wat Umong is an ancient Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai, located in a 37.5 rai wooded area southwest of the old city centre and built in the reign of King Mengrai (fig.).

The main part of the temple complex consists of a labyrinth of tunnels and is reminiscent of —and perhaps inspired by— the so-called gu-style cave temples in Myanmar.
