  praying mantis

Thailand

A praying mantis is in Thai generally called takkataen tam khao, that is to say a ‘rice crushing grasshopper’, due to its physical form which resembles a saak tham khao, i.e. a pestle used to grind rice in a mortar. This one landed on someone's sleeve at Kiw Lom viewpoint (fig.) in Mae Hong Son province.
