kapok (ceiba)
Adult kapok trees produce several hundred seed pods, that hang from their branches (fig.).
Kapok seed pods contain a fluffy, cream-coloured fibre that is a mix of lignin and cellulose.
Kapok fibre is buoyant, very resilient and resistant to water, and is used as filling in mattresses, pillows, etc.
