  qibla

 

The qibla indicates the direction of Mecca to which worshippers turn for prayer. In a mosque (fig.) this direction is represented by the mihrab, an arched niche in one its interior walls (fig.). In public buildings and hotel rooms in Muslim countries the qibla is often indicated by an arrow on the ceiling. In Malaysia it is called the kiblat.
