  Shwesandaw Phaya

Myanmar

Shwesandaw Phaya in Bagan. This temple was built in 1057 by King Anawrahta (fig.) to enshrine some sacred hairs of the Buddha. The pinnacle of this stupa reportedly has a height of 99.9 meters, making it on of the tallest pagodas of Bagan and dwarfing Sabbannu Phaya (fig.), i.e. the area's tallest Buddhist temple with a height of just over 60 meters.

The terraces of Shwesandaw Phaya can be reached by any of four steep stairways and the topmost level (fig.) offers a panoramic view of the surroundings.
