The
Mahaparinirvana of the
Buddha
is often depicted in Thai murals and
iconography
as a reclining Buddha,
though not every reclining Buddha represents mahaparinirvana. The most
famous in Thailand is the one at
Wat Phra
Chetuphon
(fig.)
in Bangkok, and shown here is
Phra Phoet Saiyaat
from Wat Yai Chai
Mongkon in
Ayutthaya.
